The Dalton Highway is Alaska's lifeline to the Arctic. Starting in Fairbanks, the first day of this journey takes you north through the sub-arctic region, crossing the Arctic Circle and visiting the tiny settlement of Coldfoot. The Gates of the Arctic National Park, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Brooks Range and North Slope are all accessed along your route. With rustic accommodation in Coldfoot and Deadhorse, you sample life in the rural north.

Extend your arctic adventure by visiting Barrow, which provides an introduction to the rich culture of the Eskimo people and the isolated beauty of the Arctic Ocean.


Day 1 / Fairbanks to Barrow: Today, you fly north from Fairbanks to the village of Barrow.Traditional Inupiat Eskimo culture program features dance and blanket toss. Also included is a historical Barrow sightseeing tour to the Arctic Ocean. Overnight in Barrow.

Day 2 / Barrow to Prudhoe Bay: Fly to Prudhoe Bay from Barrow. Guided oil field tour including a stop at the Arctic Ocean. Overnight in Prudhoe Bay.

Day 3 / Prudhoe Bay to Coldfoot: In the morning, depart by ground tour south on the Dalton Highway traveling through the remote Brooks Range, farthest north mountain range in North America. Spectacluar peaks and vast lands make this one of the most unpopulated regions in the world. Overnight Coldfoot Camp.

Day 4 / Coldfoot to Fairbanks, crossing the Arctic Circle: Today, you will visit the small goldmining community of Wiseman before you cross the Arctic Circle as well the Yukon River. Your tour comes to an end upon arrival in Fairbanks (approx. 20:00-21:00H).

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Dates of operation: please note that this tour only operates on certain days of the week. To see current departure days, please click on date range in table above. However, all departures are subject to change!
  • Arctic Ocean Access requirements: Due to oil field security measures, a valid passport number (with issuing country information) or driver's license number (with issuing state information) is required at time of booking. You will be required to carry your passport/driver's license with you during the oil field tour.
  • Body weights: Passenger weights are required at time of reservation! This is important for the flight portion, as the total weight of the aircraft, including passenger weight and luggage weight, is limited due to safety reasons.
  • Luggage restriction: Guests are limited to one bag per person with maximum weight of 10-15 pounds.
  • Accommodations: overnight accommodations for this program consist of very basic, clean rooms that are extremely rustic by urban standards. Rooms do NOT have private bathrooms. Toilets and shower stall facilities are located down the hall. Rooms have 2 twin size beds.
  • Meals: are NOT included but can be purchased en route.
  • An overnight in Fairbanks before and after this tour is highly recommended.

BARROW EXTENSION SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS

  • Full names of each traveler are required - as listed in client's passport! Otherwise boarding for the flight from Barrow to Fairbanks may be denied. We will not take any responsibility!
  • Date and/or Name Changes on a 4-day tour will incur an additional $150 per person, plus any airfare rate increase.
  • Cancellations will incur a minimum fee of $100 per person plus the non-refundable airfare to/from Barrow, in addition to our standard cancellation fees.
