Caribou in Denali National Park

On this extraordinary land and cruise tour, you will experience rugged mountains, stunning glaciers, and Gold Rush history. Watch for bears, moose and caribou in Denali National Park, whales, sea lions and puffins in Glacier Bay National Park, and an array of marine wildlife in the rich waters of the Inside Passage. Your experienced guide will help make your trip smooth and enjoyable as you tour the highlights of Alaska and Canada's remote Yukon Territory by train, coach, and catamaran. At the end of your land tour, board a deluxe Holland America cruise to Glacier Bay National Park, Ketchikan, and Vancouver. This tour enables you to visit an amazing variety of destinations in a short amount of time and for a great value.

Day 1: Arrive Anchorage, AK

Arrive in Anchorage at any time. Transfer on your own or by shuttle to your hotel. Depending on your arrival, you may have time to take part in an optional tour, such as flight-seeing or a city tour (not included).

Day 2: Anchorage to Denali National Park, AK

This morning transfer to the Anchorage train station. At 8:15am, you will travel from Anchorage to Denali National Park aboard the McKinley Explorer double-decker, glass-domed rail car. Enjoy mountain and valley views from your upper level seats. Upon arrival in Denali at 3:30pm, the afternoon is free for optional activities, such as river rafting or a Jeep safari (not included).

Day 3: Denali National Park to Fairbanks, AK

Early this morning (between 5:30am and 7am), depart on a bus tour of Denali National Park. This 6 to 8 hour tour takes you approximately 53 miles into the Park. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, look for wildlife, such as bears, caribou, and moose, as well as views of Mt. McKinley. Following the tour, travel by train to Fairbanks. Upon arrival in Fairbanks at 8:00pm, transfer to your hotel by courtesy shuttle.

Day 4: Fairbanks to Tok, AKTry your hand at gold panning!

Fairbanks owes its founding to the discovery of gold. Enjoy a 4-hour narrated tour this morning. On this tour, you will stop at Gold Dredge No. 8. While here, you'll enjoy a hearty miner’s lunch and can try your hand at panning for gold. Keep what you find! The tour will also visit a portion of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, an 800-mile engineering marvel that carries Alaskan crude from the Arctic to the seacoast at Valdez. This afternoon you will ride in a comfortable motorcoach southeast on the Alaska/Canada Highway to the border town of Tok. You will pass through the quaint towns of North Pole and Delta Junction. There are views of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge along the route.

Day 5: Tok to Dawson City, Yukon

Travel the Taylor Highway north from Tok to the small community of Eagle. Here you will tour the National Historic Site before embarking on the mv Yukon Queen II catamaran. Cruise up the mighty Yukon River to the historic town of Dawson City in Canada's Yukon Territory. Enjoy dinner onboard.

Day 6: Dawson City

Spend today at your leisure exploring the Klondike goldfields and enjoying the old Gold Rush atmosphere of Dawson City. Visit Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Casino, visit Tombstone Park, or take an historical walking tour (not included).

Day 7: Dawson City to Whitehorse, Yukon

Sightsee by coach as you travel south to Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. You will pass Five Finger Rapids, where you will stop for an included lunch. Tonight, attend the legendary Frantic Follies Vaudeville Review.

Day 8: Whitehorse to Skagway, AKWhite Pass and Yukon Route Railroad
Travel by coach and train to Skagway today. You will be driven to Fraser, where you will board the historic White Pass Yukon Railroad, which is a narrow-gauge railroad built in 1898 during the Gold Rush to transport miners. Sit back and enjoy the alpine scenery and amazing views. Skagway itself is located in Klondike Gold Rush National Park. You will some time for shopping and optional tours, such as hiking the Chilkoot Trail or riding a dog sled. This afternoon, say goodbye to your tour director and board your deluxe Holland America cruise ship. Tonight, set sail at approximately 9:00pm. All of your meals are included onboard.

 

Day 9: Cruising Glacier Bay National Park

Today you will cruise through Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Marvel at this ice-age wonder as you travel past tide-water glaciers, snow capped mountains and freshwater rivers. Keep watch for whales, sea lions, bears, and puffins, as well as glacier calving.

 

Day 10: Ketchikan, AKKetchikan's Creek Street

Located on Revillagigedo Island, Ketchikan is known as Alaska's Native Cultural Center and Sportfishing Capital. Native art and culture flourish here due to the large population of Native Alaskans, represented by the three indigenous tribes: the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. The city is also home to the largest collection of totem poles in the world. Spend your time in port shopping, touring Misty Fjord National Monument, canoeing in a traditional native canoe, or touring the backcountry by jeep (not included in tour price). The ship will typically be in port from approximately 10:00am until 6:00pm.

 

Day 11: Cruising the British Columbia Coast

Enjoy views of the forests and small towns along the Canadian coast as you sail back to Vancouver.

 

Day 12: Arrive Vancouver

You will awake this morning in Vancouver. Disembarkation begins at 7:00am.

 

7-night fully guided land tour: 7 nights hotel accommodations, domed rail service from Anchorage to Denali and Denali to Fairbanks; motorcoach from Fairbanks to Tok, Tok to Eagle, Dawson City to Whitehorse, and Whitehorse to Fraser; catamaran cruise from Eagle to Dawson City with dinner; White Pass Railroad from Fraser to Skagway. 6 to 8-hour Denali National Park bus tour with snack lunch, Fairbanks city tour with gold panning and lunch, lunch at Five Finger Rapids, and Frantic Follies Vaudeville Review.

4-night Holland America cruise: onboard accommodations, all meals, and port fees.
