Adventurers' Fjords & Bears

Enjoy a relaxing 9 day exploration of Alaska's Inside Passage on-board the Safari Escape. During your journey from Juneau to Prince Rupert (or reverse), you will have the opportunity to visit Ketchikan and Petersburg, explore Misty Fjords National Monument by kayak or small boat, and watch for glacier calving at Sawyer Glacier.


Day 1: Juneau embarkation

This afternoon, enjoy a tour of Juneau before boarding the yacht (included). As the yacht departs Juneau, toast the start of your adventure with a glass of champagne.

Cruise along the Tracy Arm Fjord.
Days 2 & 3: Glaciers and Wildlife

Take in the amazing scenery and abundant wildlife as you cruise past Admiralty Island and through Alaska's majestic fjords. You will come face to face with massive glaciers and floating icebergs as you cruise Tracy Arm Fjord. Weather permitting the yacht will travel all the way to the spectacular Sawyer Glaciers, located at the end of the fjord, where you may see large chunks of glacier fall off into the water (known as calving). Keep watch for mountain goats, bears, harbor seals, whales and porpoise.


Days 4 & 5:  Petersburg and Meyer's Chuck

Learn about Alaska's people and culture during visits to Petersburg and Meyer's Chuck. Enjoy a guided nature walk into the rain forest and kayaking in the pristine wilderness coves and passages.
 

Day 6:  Misty Fjords National Monument

Today you will explore Misty Fjords National Monument. Set aside for its dramatic scenery and unique geologic and human histories, the Monument is a gem in the wilderness. Marvel at the 3,000 foot cliffs laced with waterfalls. Search for bears, sea birds and deer as the group explores the area by kayak and inflatable craft.


Days 7 & 8:  Ketchikan and Wilderness

Upon arriving in Ketchikan, the group will enjoy a very special, private tour of Saxman Village, a Tlingit Indian community, lead by a local tribal member. Explore the clan house and discover the stories behind the totem poles that line the avenues. Back onboard the yacht, relax on deck while cruising among forested islands and scenic passages. The yacht will anchor in a quiet cove, where you can enjoy a kayaking trip of just relax on board. Tonight, enjoy a festive farewell dinner.
 

Day 9:  Prince Rupert disembarkation

The yacht will arrive in Prince Rupert, BC, shortly after breakfast this morning. Say "Good-Bye" to your new friends and depart with memories you will not soon forget!

DISCOVERER'S GLACIER BAY

Explore Glacier Bay National Park on this magnificent 8 day / 7 night cruise from Juneau to Sitka (or reverse). Watch for whales, sea lions, orcas, and porpoise while traveling through small straits and into remote bays.


Day 1:  Juneau embarkation

This afternoon, enjoy a city and glacier tour of Juneau before boarding the yacht (included). As the yacht departs Juneau, toast the start of your adventure with a glass of champagne.


Days 2 & 3:  Icy Strait and Elfin Cove

Search for the telltale blow of the humpback whale as you cruise Icy Strait today. Later, the yacht will pull into tiny Elfin Cove, where you will step ashore to meet the people who chose to live their lives in this small village, far removed from modern-day conveniences. This evening, the yacht will anchor in a remote bay and drop the kayaks in for a paddle before calling it a day.

 

Days 4 & 5:  Glacier Bay National Park

Over the next two days, you will explore Glacier Bay National Park. This 3.2 million acre park, roughly the size of Connecticut, is home to numerous tidewater glaciers and wildlife. Watch for glacier calving (where large chunks of ice fall off) as the yacht weaves among the floating icebergs. Enjoy the majestic wilderness during morning kayak trips, all the while keeping watch for puffins, mountain goats, bears, moose, and whales. In the evening, the yacht will anchor in a secluded cove.


Days 6 & 7: Wilderness, Whales and Hot Springs

Discover the heart of Alaska's Inside Passage during the next three days of cruising. On any given morning, you may be off in the kayaks wandering through misty coves, beachcombing around tide pools, or watching a bear with her cubs ambling along the shoreline. The days will be spent cruising the waters where humpback whales, Steller sea lions, orcas, and porpoise feed and frolic. Enjoy guided nature hikes and soak in the natural hot springs. It simply does not get any better than this!

 

Day 8:  Sitka disembarkation

After arriving in Sitka this morning, transfer will be provided to the airport for your departure flight.

Day 2:  Tenakee Hot Springs

Search for the telltale blow of humpback whales as you cruise amongst the islands. Later, visit tiny Tenakee Hot Springs, the "town with no road". Enjoy a hike through the forest and soak in the hot springs before continuing on your cruise. This evening, the yacht will anchor in a remote bay and drop the kayaks for a paddle before calling it a day.

 

Days 3 to 5: Alaskan Gems

Experience the heart of Alaska's Inside Passage during the next three days. Kayak under sea-carved arches in hidden inlets and wander through misty covers where colorful sea life clings to the intertidal rocks. Explore the the temperate rain forest where bears make their homes. The days will be spent cruising the waters where humpback whales, Steller sea lions, orcas and porpoise feed and frolic.

 

Days 6 & 7:  Glacier Country

Step ashore for invigorating guided hikes along remote trails in aptly names Scenic and Ideal coves or perhaps still the secluded beaches - the choice is yours! The yacht will cruise slowly in an ice-filled bay where you'll see a fjord still being formed by an active glacier. This evening, celebrate your amazing journey through the Inside Passage with a farewell dinner and slideshow.

 

Day 8:  Petersburg disembarkation

The yacht will arrive in Petersburg shortly after breakfast. Transfer will be provided to the airport for your departure flight.
