For those who have never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast, it is a completely different experience from staying in a typical chain hotel. Each B&B is unique and offers amenities not found in many hotels, such as fresh baked cookies and common areas with board games and books. B&Bs are more than just a place to sleep and eat - they are a home away from home. With comfortable rooms, daily breakfast, a homelike atmosphere and local hosts, our carefully selected B&Bs will allow you to experience the true meaning of "Alaskan Hospitality"!

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Room occupancy & bed configuration: The B&B Tour is sold on a single or double share room basis (triple or quad rooms not available)! As most B&B's in Alaska only offer one bed per room, this tour is best suited for 1 couple traveling alone.

  • Custom B&B tour: You can customize the B&B Tour, however there is a 7 night minimum required. The B&B tour is not available without a car. B&B locations in Alaska are: Anchorage, Fairbanks, Girdwood, Healy (Denali National Park), Homer, Palmer/Wasilla, Seward, Skagway, Juneau, Tok and Valdez. If your route leads through a non-B&B location (such as Glennallen or Talkeetna) but where an overnight is recommended, we can accommodate you at a motel/hotel which may not offer complementary breakfast. Generally speaking, if we book a hotel/motel, breakfast is not included.

  • B&B Tour confirmations: Reservations are usually confirmed within 8 working days.

  • Room with private bath? We will do the our best to reserve a room with a private bath for you. However, please note that some B&B's only have rooms with shared baths available. Please be prepared to share a bathroom with guests of another room!

  • Availability: Availability at B&B's can be limited. We recommend you book this program early. If we have to make alternative arrangements and cannot accommodate you at a B&B, we will book a hotel/motel for you. We will do the best to also include breakfast, yet generally speaking, if we book a hotel/motel breakfast is not included. You will be notified of any changes prior to confirmation.

  • Pets: Most B&B houses we include in our Bed & Breakfast tour have no pets living in their houses, yet it can be that a cat or a dog is allowed in the house, but not in the guest rooms. To make your stay the most comfortable, please inform us at time of booking if you are allergic to dogs or/and cats or if you prefer to stay at a home without pets.

  • Booking requirements: Please provide us with your flight arrival information (arrival time, flight number and name of airline) when you make your reservation. That way we can book the rental car accordingly.

TRAVEL TO ALASKA:

Please make sure you have your proper documents (US Drivers License or passport) with you, your credit card and camera/video recorder.

If you booked a rental car with us that you will pick up upon arrival in Alaska, please make sure you provide us with your flight arrival information so that your car is ready for you when you arrive!

Also remember that Alaska has its own time zone. Alaska is 1 hour behind Pacific Standard Time / 2 hours behind Mountain Standard Time / 3 hours behind Central Standard Time / 4 hours behind Eastern Standard Time.

WHAT TO PACK:

Temperatures from June through August range between 60°F / 16° C to 80°F / 27°. May and September are typically cooler, with temperatures ranging between 45°F / 7° C to 55°F / 13° C. Temperatures in the winter can range from -40 degrees to 40 degrees.

If summer or winter the general rule for Alaska is casual, comfortable clothing that can be worn in layers. The first layer should be something thin and next to the skin (try to avoid cotton). The second layer adds warmth and allows you the option of removing if it gets warmer (mostly fleece or similar). The third layer should protect you against rain and wind if necessary.

For day cruises into Prince William Sound and Kenai Fjords National Park, for example, we recommend an extra layer including a scarf, hat and gloves, as it can be chilly on the boats - even in the summer!

Comfortable walking shoes or water repellent hiking boots are also important.

If you visit in the winter, your outer layer should protect you against the cold and wind. Even so jeans are comfortable, they are not ideal when it is really cold. Ski pants are protecting better against the cold weather. Do not forget to bring a warm scarf, hat, gloves, and boots.
