Arrive Anchorage
Arrive Anchorage Pick up a rental car upon arrival at the airport. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure. Within walking distance of your hotel are the Imaginarium (a hands-on science discovery center), restaurants, the Planet Walk, and many other downtown attractions. Overnight in Anchorage.

2

Anchorage to Seward
Anchorage to SewardDistance/driving time: 127 miles / plan 3 hours driving time, not including stops.

Today is at your leisure to drive to Seward, located on the Kenai Peninsula. As you depart Anchorage, you will have time to visit the Alaska Zoo, home to wolves, bears and moose, as well as other animals native to Alaska. There are plenty of opportunities to stop along the way for a short hike or picnic, too. Overnight in Seward.

3

Seward
Seward At 10am, learn about dog sledding in Alaska and the famous Iditarod Race from experienced dog mushers at the Seavey family's kennel. Meet famous sled dogs, cuddle adorable puppies, and dress up as an Iditarod musher. Then take to the trail for your thrilling 2-mile ride on a sled dog cart. This afternoon at 1pm, visit the state-of-the-art marine science facility at the Alaska SeaLife Center. Take a behind the scenes look at the facility, where you will learn about octopus and get to meet, touch and possibly feed an octopus. The rest of the day is at your leisure; we suggest a visit to Exit Glacier, a massive ice sheet flowing out of the Harding Ice Field. Overnight in Seward.

4

Seward to Girdwood
Seward to GirdwoodDistance/driving time: 95 miles / plan 2 hours driving time, not including stops.

Spend the morning exploring Seward before departing to Cooper Landing for a 2-hour scenic float trip on the Upper Kenai River. Watch for wildlife as your guide navigates your raft through snow-capped mountain scenery while telling stories about the early settlers to this area. After your tour, head north to Girdwood, a quaint ski town with one of Alaska's nicest resorts. This evening, we suggest a tram ride to the top of Mt Alyeska, a guided hike, or an ATV tour (not included). Overnight in Girdwood.

5

Prince William Sound Glacier Cruise
Prince William Sound Glacier CruiseDistance/driving time: 26 miles / plan 45 minutes driving time, not including stops and tunnel wait time.

Today, drive to the small port town of Whittier where you will embark on a 5-hour cruise to Surprise Glacier through the calm waters of Prince William Sound. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of this lush area as you cruise into different bays of the sound. With some luck you may have the chance to see Surprise Glacier calving (when the ice falls of the face of the glacier). A National Park Ranger narrates the cruise and conducts a Junior Ranger Program for kids. A delicious salmon and prime rib meal is included. On your return to Girdwood, visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a drive-through wildlife park with bears, caribou, moose, and musk oxen (not included). Overnight in Girdwood.

In Talkeetna, we suggest a scenic jet boat ride or a ski-plane tour to Mt. McKinley (not included). Overnight in Talkeetna.

7

Talkeetna to Denali National Park
Talkeetna to Denali National ParkDistance/driving time: 153 miles / plan 3 hours driving time, not including stops.

At 6 million acres, Denali National Park is one of the world's last great frontiers for wilderness adventure. Your hotel will be at the park entrance, where most of the park services and hotels are located. This evening, we suggest the delicious salmon dinner and amusing antics served at the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

WHAT TO PACK:

Temperatures from June through August range between 60°F / 16° C to 80°F / 27°. May and September are typically cooler, with temperatures ranging between 45°F / 7° C to 55°F / 13° C. Temperatures in the winter can range from -40 degrees to 40 degrees.

If summer or winter the general rule for Alaska is casual, comfortable clothing that can be worn in layers. The first layer should be something thin and next to the skin (try to avoid cotton). The second layer adds warmth and allows you the option of removing if it gets warmer (mostly fleece or similar). The third layer should protect you against rain and wind if necessary.

For day cruises into Prince William Sound and Kenai Fjords National Park, for example, we recommend an extra layer including a scarf, hat and gloves, as it can be chilly on the boats - even in the summer!

Comfortable walking shoes or water repellent hiking boots are also important.

If you visit in the winter, your outer layer should protect you against the cold and wind. Even so jeans are comfortable, they are not ideal when it is really cold. Ski pants are protecting better against the cold weather. Do not forget to bring a warm scarf, hat, gloves, and boots.
