Ancient mountains, arctic tundra, and Eskimo culture make this small group
tour a truly memorable arctic journey! A 1.5-hour flight takes you into the
Brooks Range, an area of glacially carved mountains that rise to 6400 feet. You
will land within the Gates of the Arctic National Park at Anaktuvuk Pass, nearly
100 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The Pass is a major migration route for
caribou and home to bears, wolves, moose, Dall sheep, wolverines, and fox. In
the village, you will learn of the Nunamiut (inland Eskimo) way of life and how
they blend modern ways with traditional life. After lunch, experience how they
travel, hunt, and use the land by exploring subsistence hunting trails with your
guide on an 8-wheel all-terrain vehicle. A visit will also be made to the
National Park ranger station. Fly back to Fairbanks in the evening. Lunch is
included.
