BARROW & NATIVE VILLAGE CULTURAL TOURS

Barrow Expedition Tour from Fairbanks

This small group day excursion takes you from Fairbanks to Barrow on a scenic small aircraft flight. The 9-passenger planes allow for better sightseeing opportunities along the way. Stops will be made in the small community of Coldfoot along the way for the opportunity to grab lunch and stretch your legs. In Barrow, a local guide will take you on an approximately 2-hour sightseeing tour of the village, where you will discover firsthand the lifestyles of Alaska's Inupiat Eskimos. Here you will have the opportunity to touch the Arctic Ocean and visit the residential and commercial areas of the community. Not included: meals and transfers to and from your hotel (Tour departs from the East ramp of the Fairbanks airport).

NOTE: Due to limitations of smaller aircraft the Expedition is more prone to weather alterations. However, refunds are available if the tour is cancelled or shortened due to weather.

Gates of the Arctic Experience at Anaktuvuk Pass Village from Fairbanks

Ancient mountains, arctic tundra, and Eskimo culture make this small group tour a truly memorable arctic journey! A 1.5-hour flight takes you into the Brooks Range, an area of glacially carved mountains that rise to 6400 feet. You will land within the Gates of the Arctic National Park at Anaktuvuk Pass, nearly 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The Pass is a major migration route for caribou and home to bears, wolves, moose, Dall sheep, wolverines, and fox. In the village, you will learn of the Nunamiut (inland Eskimo) way of life and how they blend modern ways with traditional life. After lunch, experience how they travel, hunt, and use the land by exploring subsistence hunting trails with your guide on an 8-wheel all-terrain vehicle. A visit will also be made to the National Park ranger station. Fly back to Fairbanks in the evening. Arctic Circle Anaktuvuk Pass Adventure from Fairbanks

In the evening fly from Fairbanks to the Nunamit Eskimo Village of Anaktuvuk Pass. You will fly over vast and remote Alaska landscape. You land in Anaktuvuk Pass, nestled in the heart of Gates of the Arctic National Park. Here you will visit the local village and learn about the Nunamiut culture. At the end of your tour, you will fly back to Fairbanks. Not included: meals and transfers to and from your hotel (Tour departs from the East ramp of the Fairbanks airport).

NOTE: Not recommended for young children.

Beaver Village Adventure from Fairbanks

Enjoy a 3-hour round trip journey by air to visit the multi-cultural Yukon River village of Beaver! Travel north from Fairbanks and enjoy panoramic views of the vast and remote land below. Witness the gold mining that continues nearly 100 years after the precious metal first brought prospectors to this area. Fly over the expansive Yukon River Valley, home of traditional peoples that sustain their lifestyle and culture as they have for thousands of years. View the remarkable Trans-Alaska Pipeline, symbolizing the immense changes brought to Alaska's Arctic by the discovery of oil over 30 years ago. Upon arrival in Beaver Village you will be greeted by your host. Walk through the village and learn about the local Athabascan Indian and Inupiaq Eskimo cultures. This approximately 1-hour ground tour will give you a firsthand glimpse of village lifestyle as it exists today in rural Alaska. The return flight will travel north to cross over the Arctic Circle, so all guests will receive an official Arctic Circle Certificate. Not included: meals and transfers to and from your hotel (Tour departs from the East ramp of the Fairbanks airport).
