Rainforest Hiking Tour from Girdwood

Hiking the Winner Creek Trail in the lush Rainforest of Girdwood is an exhilarating experience that is a memorable adventure for everyone. This moderate and exciting hikeis approx. 5 miles long (roundtrip). Time and enthusiasm permitting, the hike also consists of a very unique hand tram crossing and walk over the Winner Creek Gorge. Your naturalist guide will point out and discuss the flora and fauna of North America's northern-most temperate rainforest. You may even see a moose! When blueberry season is in full swing, the trail is blooming with scrumptious delights sure to please everyone. No experience necessary on this excursion.

NOTE: A 2-person minimum is required for the tour to operate. Children have to be at least 7 years old in order to participate in the this tour. This trip operates in ALL weather conditions! Please dress for the weather, wear comfortable hiking clothing including rain gear and sturdy footwear or hiking boots. You will be asked to fill out a waiver form before departing on this tour.

Alpine Hike on Alyeska Glacier from Girdwood

Just south of Anchorage, the Alyeska Glacier is nestled in a glacier bowl in the Chugach Mountains. Overlooking breathtaking views of the Turnagain Arm and towering alpine peaks, you will be amazed while peering into crevasses during this exciting hike. Ride the Alyeska Tram up the mountain and then hike for about 2 hours total (1 mile roundtrip with an 800 foot elevation gain). At the glacier's edge, you will gear up with climbing harnesses, ropes and/or crampons, and over-boots to travel out onto the glacier itself. Trip includes all equipment, experienced and certified mountain guides, tram ticket, interpretive glaciology discussions, a snack and water.

NOTE: While this is a moderate to strenuous activity, no previous experience is needed. A 2-person minimum is required for the tour to operate. Children have to be at least 10 years old in order to participate in the this tour.  You will be asked to fill out a waiver form before departing on this tour.

Iditarod Trail Crow Pass Hiking Tour from Girdwood

Glaciers, waterfalls, wildflowers, and mining ruins add some spice to the hike through Crow Pass. The pass is the highest point on the historic Iditarod Trail and is one of the finest day hikes in Southcentral Alaska. Arctic ground squirrels, marmots, and mountain goats inhabit the high country near Crow Pass, and bears, moose, and Dall sheep are frequently spotted too. You will gain 2,100 feet of elevation from the trail head. The trail is relatively snow-free by late June, though the Crystal Lake basin south of the pass and some of the gullies north of the pass may hold snow well into summer.

NOTE: A 2-person minimum is required for the tour to operate. Children have to be at least 9 years old in order to participate in the this tour. Please note previous hiking experience suggested on this moderate to challenging excursion. Participants should be capable of hiking up to 6 miles roundtrip on steep, uneven terrain. Rock Climbing Tour from Girdwood

An exhilarating and memorable experience for all! Experienced guides teach everyone from novices to advanced climbers at either Tram Rock (at the Alyeska Resort) or along the Seward Highway, depending on weather. This tour includes a snack, climbing gear, helmet, harness, chalk-bag and rental rock shoes. While this is a moderate to strenuous activity, no prior experience is necessary.

Ice Climbing Tour from Girdwood

Learn to ice climb or hone your skills south of Anchorage. After arriving at the climbing area in the Portage Valley, you will hike 5 miles roundtrip on rugged terrain ranging from trails to off-trail talus walking, boulder hopping and cramponing on ice to get to the Byron Glacier where you will climb. Your guide will set up a top-rope on the ice route. The experienced, certified mountain guides will teach you everything from the basics to advanced ice climbing techniques. You will be fitted with crampons, a harness, mountaineering boots, and ice tools. After learning the basics, "climb on" as your guide belays you! The towering Chugach Mountains and glaciers will fill our views during the trip in Portage.

NOTE: No experience necessary but participants should be in good physical condition. Meals are not included. A 2-person minimum is required for the tour to operate. Children have to be at least 14 years old in order to participate in the this tour.  You will be asked to sign a waiver  form before departing on this tour.

Spencer Glacier Hike including train transfers from Girdwood

Enjoy a hike amongst beautiful scenery, blue icebergs and onto a majestic glacier. Arrive at Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop aboard the Alaska Railroad. After a short van ride, hike about 2 miles of flat forest service trail to the edge of Spencer Glacier. Get outfitted with helmets and crampons. After a brief safety lesson and practice getting comfortable with the crampons, the group will venture out onto the glacier itself. About two hours will be spent exploring the glaciers features, including crevasses, ice caves, moulins, and more. Experienced glacier guides provide information on local wildlife, history and glaciology. Return to Girdwood by van and train. Tour includes: roundtrip train transfer from Girdwood, services of knowledgeable guides, use of helmet and crampons, and a deli style lunch.

Bird Creek ATV Tour from Bird Creek/Seward Highway

Access Alaska's backcountry! Drive a few minutes to Bird Creek, an area with a maze of trails winding through temperate rainforest. With your guide, ride trails hidden even to locals. Glacier Discovery Train to Spencer Whistle Stop with guided hike from Portage

Depart on the Alaska Railroad for a ride to Spencer Glacier in the remote Chugach Mountains. Then participate in a guided hike led by a US Forest Service Ranger. The ranger will lead a narrated walk to a viewing platform about 1.5 miles from the starting point (about 3 miles roundtrip). This low-impact gravel path offers benches and incredible scenic views along the way.
