Haines

Haines Day Trips & Outdoor Adventures

Located on the pristine western shores of Lynn Canal on Alaska’s northern Inside Passage, America’s longest fjord, Haines is home to 1,700 year-round residents. Here you’ll find a perfectly distilled sampling of Alaska’s history, scenic beauty, wildlife, arts and culture. The village was named Haines in honor of Mrs. F. E. Haines, secretary of the Presbyterian home mission board, who had raised funds for the mission. In 1904, Fort William Seward played a key role in the construction of the Haines and Alaska Highways during World War II. The historic buildings in Haines are now private homes, hotels, bed & breakfast lodgings and shops.
