This tour is a great day filled with fun and local flavor. First you will explore part of Katchemak Bay by boat and try your luck with catching fish like rockfish, red snapper and cod . This is a wonderful experience for young and old anglers. Your knowledgeable captain will also give an educational narrative about local animals, history and lifestyles. After you have caught some fish you will head over to the captain's family cabin where the cook will prepare a fresh seafood meal with the fish you just caught (sorry, you will not be able to keep any for your own). The signature dish is a rich bouillabaisse which is served with fresh bread, herbed butter and a dessert. With a maximum number of 6 guests, this tour is a great option if you are looking for a more intimate Alaska experience. Fishing license is not included and will need to be purchased prior to the tour. Enjoy a 3 hour narrated cruise to the famous bird rookery at Gull Island. This is a great way to see puffins, cormorants, kittiwakes, and other migratory seabirds while you learn about their diets, habits and migratory patterns. In the morning travel by water taxi across Kachemak Bay to Glacier Spit in Kachemak Bay State Park. Join your guide for a hike to Grewingk Glacier Lake. Your guide will identify and allow you to taste edible vegetation along the way, point out the stages of reforestation along the glacial moraine and provide you with a wealth of information you would not obtain walking this trail on your own. The trail crosses flat terrain, through stands of cottonwoods and spruce and across the dry outwash plain of the Grewingk Glacier. It ends at the broad, open beaches of Grewingk Glacier Lake. This trail offers superb views of the glacier and its surrounding peaks. Icebergs floating in the lake present opportunities for great photos. Included is round trip water taxi, guide and state park fee. A 2-person minimum is required for the tour to operate. Children have to be at least 6 years old in order to participate in the this tour. Surrounded by picturesque mountain peaks, remote fjords and abundant wildlife makes Homer's Kachemak Bay a premier destination for sea kayaking. Begin with a water taxi ride across scenic Kachemak Bay to the protected waters of Otter Cove. Here, your experienced guide will provide an orientation before you begin paddling past spectacular scenery and watching for sea otters, porpoises and possibly even whales. The guide will also provide information on the local area. At the end of the tour you will be transported via water taxi back to Homer. The kayaks are single and double Necky kayaks which are very stable for beginners yet still provide the experienced paddler with a fun ride.
