Enjoy a historical tour of Juneau including the state capitol. Then, turn
up the road to Gold Creek and “Last Chance Basin”, where Joe Juneau and Richard
Harris struck gold in 1880. Now it is time for you to try your luck and learn
how to pan and capture the full gold-rush experience. The tour ends with a
delicious meal at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. The salmon bake has a beautiful
setting, in lush rain forest alongside a creek, under translucent domes that
protect you from the elements, rain or shine. Savor the aroma of wild salmon,
grilling slowly over fires of fragrant alder wood. Choose from grilled salmon,
Cheechako Chicken, Chilkoot Baked Beans, Tongass Wild-Rice Pilaf, White Pass

Juneau cruise ship pier (downtown Juneau) to Auke Bay. Here you will
board the state of the art jet boat which is custom designed for Juneau whale
watching and features large windows as well as an outside viewing deck.
Watch for humpback whales that return to the nutrient-rich waters around
Juneau each year. You might also see other wildlife such as bald eagles and a
variety of seabirds. An onboard naturalist will provide more information. After
the cruise you will be transferred back to the Juneau cruise ship pier.

Spend the day exploring the Juneau's scenic coastal region by two person kayak, with a backdrop of tall majestic mountains and rainforest. The stable kayaks will allow you to silently approach wildlife, such as sea lions, humpback whales, orca whales, and numerous sea bird species. During your tour, you will visit the Mendenhall Wetlands, where you will have the opportunity to view the Mendenhall Glacier at a distance. Your guide will also explain the significance of places such as Smugglers Cover, the history of the surrounding area, and help identify local flora and fauna. This trip begins with a 2.5 mile moderate to challenging hike through the rainforest along Mendenhall Lake. The beginning of the trail is well maintained, while the second half is off the beaten path and requires some rock scrambling. Once you reach the glacier, you will be outfitted in trekking gear. With the use of crampons, you will trek for 1.5 hours on moderate glacier terrain overlooking Mendenhall Lake. Enjoy close-up views of ice caves, streams, crevasses and other unique glacial formations. Tour includes fully certified guides, all necessary gear, roundtrip transportation from Juneau, hearty snack & beverages. Please note that a 2 person minimum is required to operate this tour. No experience is necessary however you must be in good physical condition
and able to hike for up to 6 hours, covering about 7 miles roundtrip. The terrain is uneven and rocky, so sturdy hiking shoes are a must. Circumstances such as poor weather, inadequate footwear, or a slow pace may limit or prevent the opportunity to ice climb. Please note cruise ship or hotel at the time of booking.

Taku Glacier Lodge offers a classic Alaskan experience with excellent
views of the Taku Glacier. Reached by float plane from Juneau, the rustic
wilderness lodge is famous for its daily traditional salmon barbecue lunch
(included). The 35 minute flight to the lodge offers breathtaking views of the
magnificent glaciers and deep blue crevasses of the Juneau Icefield. The plane
will land on the Taku River, near the historic Taku Lodge. When the lodge was
built in 1923, the area teemed with wildlife. Today bear, moose, wolves and
wolverine make this their habitat; it is common to see black bears close to the
lodge. During lunch, enjoy stories about the Lodge's storied past. After lunch,
you have free time to search for wildlife with a walk on one of the wilderness
trails.
