This glacier and wildlife cruise through Prince William Sound features a
visit to Columbia Glacier. Onboard you will have a chance to view the Sound's
wildlife, including sea lions, sea otters, and whales. You will learn about the
mining, oil shipping, earthquake, and fishing history, and you will hear stories
about the first people to explore and live in the area. This tour includes a
description of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal as you sail past. Because the
Columbia Glacier is the fastest moving glacier in Alaska, it releases tons of
ice daily into the ocean. Typically your ship will not be able to navigate to
the face of the glacier. Instead, you will cruise along the terminal moraine
around massive icebergs. A light meal is served onboard (included). The tour
travels 80-miles round-trip. (Tour departs from the small boat
harbor).

Search for wildlife such as whales, sea otters and sea lions as you
transfer two hours to the Columbia Glacier by water taxi. This is Alaska's
second largest tidewater glacier. Since the early 1980's, the glacier has been
retreating catastrophically off of the terminal moraine leaving an 8 mile long
field of floating icebergs. You will be dropped off near the moraine of the
glacier to paddle around the icebergs. Time is included for a lunch break and a
short hike on the glacier's gravel moraine. Hot drinks and snacks are provided;
however, lunch is not included. After the break you will continue exploring the
coastline by kayak. The water taxi will return to Valdez after 4 to 5 hours of
activity.
NOTE: A 4-person minimum is required for the tour to operate.
