Denali Backcountry Lodge

 

Experience the grandeur of Denali National Park first hand while staying at a lodge deep within the Park! spectacular mountain backdrop, is very close to the lodges. Spectacular scenery, top rated wildlife viewing and various outdoor activities make this a memorable experience!

 

4 days / 3 nights

 

Day 1: Anchorage to Denali National Park

At 7am, depart from the Anchorage downtown on a motorcoach** to Denali National Park (see Important Notes below). Relax and capture the scenery from large picture windows. You may make a short stop in Talkeetna, before arriving in Denali at approx. 1pm (you may also be traveling straight to Denali). The afternoon is at your leisure to explore the park. Try an exciting rafting tour or enjoy the comedy of the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

 

Day 2: Denali park entrance to KantishnaEnjoy a beautiful sunset in Denali National Park.

This morning, you have time for a helicopter sightseeing  tour or rafting trip (not included). At approx. 1pm you will depart on a wildlife bus tour through Denali National Park to Kantishna. Along the way, your naturalist driver/guide will discuss the history of the park and help you search for moose, bear, caribou and other animals. Stops will be made to enjoy the scenery and photograph wildlife. The bus will arrive at the lodge at 8pm. Overnight at Kantishna Roadhouse or Denali Backcountry Lodge.

 

Day 3: Kantishna

Spend the day enjoying a naturalist-led guided hike or walk, panning for gold, mountain biking through the backcountry or flight seeing. In the evening, enjoy a presentation focusing on the local area, read a book from the extensive natural history library, or just relax and share stories from the day. All outdoor activities (except flight seeing) are included. Overnight at the Kantishna Roadhouse or Denali Backcountry Lodge.

 

Day 4: Kantishna to Anchorage

Enjoy a light breakfast early this morning before departing at 6am on the bus back to the park entrance. For a truly unique experience, upgrade to a scenic return flight past Mt. McKinley to the park entrance (see Important Notes below). At 12:15pm, depart on the Alaska Railroad to Anchorage. Tour concludes upon arrival in Anchorage at 8pm.

Scheduled motorcoach (bus) from Anchorage to Denali National Park. Train from Denali to Anchorage. 1 night accommodation near the park entrance and 2 nights accommodation at a lodge inside Denali National Park. Roundtrip transfer from the park entrance to the lodge. Meals as noted above, services of naturalist staff, tours and equipment rental (except flight seeing) while at the lodge. All taxes and fees.

Transfers in Anchorage, alcoholic beverages, flight seeing, activities or meals other those especially listed, gratuities.

 

Meals: There are no restaurants or stores inside Denali National Park so meals are included while at the lodge. Meals are homemade and prepared fresh every day. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style; dinner is served family style. Special meal requests can be prepared with advance notice and should be noted at the time of booking. Drinks are an additional cost.

 

Bus Schedule: In addition to the 7am departure, there is a 3pm departure daily, which arrives in Denali at approx. 9pm. There is no additional charge for this later departure. If you prefer this departure time, please indicate this on your reservation form.

 

Train Option: The tour is available with travel from Anchorage on the Alaska Railroad (departs at 8:15am, arrives in Denali at 3:30pm) for only $45 per adult and $25 per child additional in standard service OR for $130 per adult and $67 per child additional in Gold Star service. If you prefer this method of travel, please indicate this on your reservation form.

 

Scenic Fly-Out: On Day 4, you may upgrade to a scenic flight to the park entrance. The flight is approx. 55 minutes in duration and, weather permitting, flies past Mt. McKinley. The flight is an additional $324 per person, based on a 2 person minimum. If you would like to add this option, please indicate this on your reservation form.

 

From Fairbanks: Transportation to/from Fairbanks, rather than Anchorage, is available. Please email us for more information.
