Brooks Falls,
located in Katmai National Park, is world renowned for
incredible brown bear viewing opportunities. We have developed several
packages from one day to four days, with the
opportunity for ample time to view bears, as well
as an
optional guided bus tour to the Valley of 10,000
Smokes.
Peak bear viewing at Brooks
Falls
takes place from late-June through July and again from
late-August until
mid-September when the salmon are
spawning in the Brooks River. Special viewing platforms located at
Brooks Falls and the mouth of the river offer
unobstructed, up close bear viewing.

Valley of 10,000 Smokes Tour -
Tour 117
Daily departures June 10 through
September 18, 2008. This tour is only available as
an add on to our overnight packages listed
above.
In June 1912, the lush green landscape of Katmai
was dramatically altered when the Novarupta
Volcano erupted. More than 40 square miles of
land was buried underneath volcanic deposits up
to to 700 feet deep. Small holes and cracks in
the deposits began to form thousands of steam
vents, some reaching as high as 1000 feet into
the air!
The volcano has since been inactive, making it
safe to visit this fascinating area. This tour
travels from Brooks Camp through the Valley of
Ten Thousand Smokes to Overlook Cabin. The 23
mile drive (approximately 2 hours duration) to the cabin is broken up with stops
for scenic views and wildlife viewing. At
Overlook Cabin, enjoy educational displays and
historic photographs of the Valley while having
lunch. For those interested, the tour guide will
lead a hike down to examine the ash and pumice
floor of the Valley. (Important: this
hike is somewhat strenuous)

Valley of 10,000 Smokes with driver/guide. Lunch. Hike to valley
floor (optional). All

We recommend you dress in layers and bring a raincoat.
