Alaska Whale Watching:  Overnight cruises and Packages

BEARS, WHALES AND GLACIERS
Southeast Alaska, perhaps better known as the Inside Passage, is a magical place of lush coastal rainforest, deep blue fjords, a rich history and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. This experience in Alaska's Southeast utilizes scheduled flights and day cruises for the best Alaska whale tours near Juneau, as well as bear viewing on Admiralty Island and glacier cruise. GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK EXPERIENCE
3 day hotel based tour from Juneau to Glacier Bay National Park. The park is famous for its tidewater glaciers, deep fjords and wildlife, including eagles, seals, sea lions and brown bears. In addition to cruising through the national park, we have included a half-day Alaskan whale watching  tour into Icy Strait and Point Adolphus provides excellent whale watching opportunities. Look for humpbacks, orca, and minke whales.
 

GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK SMALL SHIP CRUISE
4 or 5 day naturalist led Alaska whale cruise through the fjords and inlets of Glacier Bay. Destinations include Skagway, Haines, Glacier Bay, and Icy Strait. The cruise is roundtrip from Juneau and provides excellent chances to see different whale species up close.

9 day naturalist led cruise into Glacier Bay National Park, Icy Strait, and Frederick Sound, offers guaranteed whale watching!  This Alaskan whale cruise is roundtrip from Juneau and also visits Sitka, Alaska’s former Russian capital.
 

INSIDE PASSAGE SMALL SHIP CRUISE
9 day naturalist cruise through the sheltered waters and small towns of the Inside Passage. Destinations include Misty Fjords, Frederick Sound, Tracy Arm and Glacier Bay National Park. Cruise is one way between Juneau and Ketchikan (or reverse). Frederick Sound is one of the most reliable locations to see humpback whales feeding.

WHALE WATCHING CRUISE from JUNEAU Tour 323 Recommended for families
$115 adult,  $92 child under 12 years
Share a moment of your time with some of the most wonderful animals on earth, surrounded by Alaska's majestic scenery. Humpback whales migrate to the waters near Juneau for their summer feeding grounds and to socialize and play in the waters from mid-April through October. Humpbacks are among the most playful whales, and often breach (leap from the water), bubble-net feed, and slap their tails while you watch. Roundtrip transfers in Juneau are included.
Duration: 3 hours, including transfer time.

WHALE WATCHING CRUISE & MENDENHALL GLACIER from JUNEAU Tour 324 Recommended for families

This is the ideal tour for people with limited time in Juneau who want to see as much as they can. Enjoy a whale watching cruise to look for Humpback whales (see full description above). You will also stop at Mendenhall Glacier for a 45 to 60 minute tour. Along the way, your driver will provide narration about Juneau and its history. Roundtrip transfers in Juneau are included.
Duration: 4 to 4.5 hours.

GRAY WHALE WATCHING CRUISE from SEWARD Tour 250B Recommended for families  Recommended for active travelers

Witness this amazing annual migration of California Gray Whales, traveling over 5,000 miles from Baja California, to the nutrient rich waters of Alaska's Bering Sea. Get a front row seat as these magnificent mammals pass by the mouth of Resurrection Bay. Watch for their bushy, heart shaped blow rising up to 13 feet in the air. A hot lunch is included. Note: Whale sightings are common but not guaranteed.

Northwestern Fjords Cruise from SEWARD Tour 126 Recommended for families
$184 adult, $94 child 2 - 11 years, $5 infants 0-1 years
Travel deep into the heart of Kenai Fjords National Park to the magnificent Northwestern Fjord. Keep watch for wildlife as you cruise through Resurrection Bay and past the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. You'll experience this glacially-carved region known for its three tidewater glaciers, steep cliffs, and rich waters abundant with wildlife. A stop will be made at a glacier to hopefully see glacier calving. Cruise includes a continental breakfast and deli-style lunch served on board. Distance is approx. 150 miles roundtrip.
Note: The first several hours of this cruise follow the same route as the above shorter cruises.

FULL DAY KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK CRUISE Tour 127  Recommended for families
$169 adult, $86 child 2 - 11 years, $76 infants 0-1 years

On this 110-mile round trip you travel through the Kenai Fjords National Park and the Chiswell Islands National Wildlife Refuge. Watch for Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, eagles and even whales. See examples of Alpine, Cirque, Piedmont and Tidewater glaciers. Witness glacier calving up-close with a stop at either Holgate or Aialik Glacier. A National Park Ranger is onboard to answer questions; they also conduct a Junior Ranger program for children. Tour includes a salmon and prime rib all-you-can-eat-buffet.
Duration: 7.5 hours.

COLUMBIA GLACIER CRUISE from VALDEZ Tour 390 Recommended for families
$112 adult, $56 child (3-12 years)
This journey through Prince William Sound features a visit to Columbia Glacier. On board you will have a chance to view the Sound's wildlife, including sea lions and whales. You will learn about the mining, oil shipping, earthquake, and fishing history, and you will hear stories about the first people to explore and live in the area. Included in this tour is a description of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal. A stop Columbia Glacier presents an excellent opportunity to witness glacial ice calving into the ocean. A light meal is served on-board (included). 80-miles round-trip.

COLUMBIA AND MEARES GLACIER CRUISE from VALDEZ Tour 391 Recommended for active travelers

Enjoy a cruise in majestic waters of Prince William Sound to both Meares and Columbia Glaciers. On board you will have a chance to view the Sounds' wildlife including a Bull Head Sea Lion sunning area. You will learn the mining, oil, earthquake, and fishing history of Valdez, hear stories about the first people to explore and live in the Sound, and pass by the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. A stop Columbia Glacier presents an excellent opportunity to witness glacial ice calving into the ocean. Your stop at Meares Glacier gives you the rare opportunity to see an advancing glacier tearing up trees and rocks in its path as it grows. A hot lunch and afternoon snack will be served on-board. 110 miles round-trip.

SHOUP GLACIER KAYAKING from VALDEZ Tour 393 Recommended for active travelersRecommended for families
$179 adult, $162 child (6-13 years)

Perfect for children, beginners and more experienced kayakers. This tour offers an intimate experience at one of Prince William Sounds' many calving tide water glaciers. Climb aboard a motor boat for a taxi ride to Shoup Bay where your scenic journey begins. Over the course of the day you will paddle past floating ice, past a nesting colony of Black-Legged Kittiwakes, and up to the face of the glacier. Wildlife abounds in the area - marine mammals, birds, ducks, sea otters and harbor seals are common. Enjoy a short walk on the beach and a lunch spot with a colorful glacier view (lunch not included). At the end of the paddle you will be returned to Valdez by motorboat.
Duration: 8 hours, including 40 minute one-way transfer.
Departure Time: anytime between 8am and 12pm, depending on tides.
Daily Departures: May 20 - September 10, 2009.
