Anchorage Tours

RESURRECTION BAY CRUISE with ALASKA WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTER

Enjoy a winter glacier and wildlife cruise of Resurrection Bay! Depart Seward on a natural history cruise of the area, while watching for marine wildlife, such as Steller sea lions, sea otters, mountain goats, bald eagles and even possibly a whale. See Bear Glacier, a massive river of ice flowing from Harding Ice Field located in Kenai Fjords National Park. Hot lunch served on cruise. Bonus! Gray Whales migrate past SewardGRAY WHALE WATCHING CRUISE Tour 250B
Witness this amazing annual migration of California Gray Whales, traveling over 5,000 miles from Baja California, to the nutrient rich waters of Alaska's Bering Sea. Get a front row seat as these magnificent mammals pass by the mouth of Resurrection Bay. Watch for their bushy, heart shaped blow rising up to 13 feet in the air. A hot lunch is included.

KNIK GLACIER FLIGHT SEEING TOUR Tour 12B

This flight will take you over the expansive Knik Glacier rimmed with spectacular hanging glaciers. Sense the motion of the ice and see how it has shaped the land, then fly over the Colony Glacier to Lake George where it spills into the winding Knik Glacier Gorge.

Guided snowshoeing takes you into the peaceful beauty of Alaska's backcountry

SNOWSHOEING Tour 254

Come and explore the Chugach Mountain front range while snowshoeing. This trip is tailored to your experience level. During the hike your naturalist guide will point out and discuss the flora and fauna of this unique winter wonderland. You may even see a moose! This is a great tour for families! No experience necessary.

Notes: Please dress in layers and winter ski-type clothing (such as ski-type water-resistant jacket, pants, gloves, wool or fleece hat), wear hiking or winter boots, bring a backpack, water, and your camera.  Please advise your shoe size / boot size at time of booking. All participants are required to fill out a waiver form prior to tour.

ICE CLIMBING Tour 30

If you have never tried ice climbing before, now is your chance! This tour is perfect if you are looking for a little more adventure than the usual. After driving to a climbing area north or south of Anchorage, your guide will set up a top-rope on the ice route. The experienced and certified international mountain guide will teach you everything from the basics to advanced ice climbing techniques. You will be fitted with crampons, a harness, mountaineering boots and ice tools. Then, "climb on" as your guide belays you! No experience necessary.

Note: All participants are required to fill out a waiver form prior to tour.  Please advise your shoe size / boot size at time of booking.

Tour includes: roundtrip transfer from Anchorage, all technical climbing equipment.

Enjoy a full day journey into the depths of Wild Alaska! The tour begins from Anchorage with a 2 hour transfer which will take you to some of the best snowmobiling Alaska has to offer. After a short orientation, begin your adventure into Alaska's wilderness. Enjoy a stop for a hearty Alaskan lunch at a local roadhouse before continuing on you ride in the afternoon. As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, stop again for some trail side hot chocolate while taking in the spectacular scenery before loading up and heading back to Anchorage. No experience necessary.

Enjoy a stop for hot chocolate while taking in the spectacular scenery. Depending on snow conditions, this ride will take you to the face of a towering glacier.

Tour the kennel, learn about dog sledding and meet real Alaskan sled dogs! Then, depart right from the kennel on a 6 to 8 mile sled dog ride through the wilderness. This is a truly exhilarating experience!

LEAD DOG TOUR Tour 257

Learn about dog mushing with a visit to the Dream a Dream Dog Farm, owned and operated by veteran Iditarod and Yukon Quest sled dog race mushers Vern and Susan Halter. This tour provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the Iditarod Race and mushing basics. After touring the facilities and meeting the dogs, learn about dog mushing in the Mushing 101 course. The course focuses on equipment, sled harnessing, commands and what to expect from the dogs. After the course, you'll have the chance to drive your own dog team for an exhilarating ride through the wilderness for about 90 minutes.

Talkeetna Tours

MCKINLEY EXPERIENCE Tour 84

This magnificent flight takes you within six miles of Mt. McKinley's summit. As your flight departs Talkeetna, you begin to see how the last ice age has shaped the land. Moments later you enter a world of rugged high mountain peaks and wide glacier filled valleys. Listen as your pilot describes the natural wonders of Denali National Park. See the Sheldon Amphitheater, beautiful Ruth Glacier, and the Great Gorge (the world's deepest - almost 2 miles from top to bottom). All tours include this basic route... "no visit is complete without this experience!"

MCKINLEY FLYER Tour 85

Extend your McKinley Experience Tour and fly to the remote western end of Denali national Park. Explore the south side of Mt. McKinley (20,320 feet), Mt. Foraker (17,400 feet) and Mt. Hunter (14,573 feet). Fly over the winding Kahiltna Glacier, the longest glacier in Denali National Park (45 miles long and 3 miles wide), and on to the climber's Base Camp located at 7,200 feet on the southeast fork of the Kahiltna Glacier. Spot for climbers as they traverse the glacier and make their way to the West Buttress (popular climbing route).

DENALI GRAND Tour 86

Fairbanks Tours

 

FAIRBANKS WINTER ADVENTURE Tour 259

You will be picked up at your hotel and begin with a visit to the UAF Museum. Marvel at the natural and cultural history of Alaska and discover the science behind the majestic Northern Lights. From the museum we will drive to the UAF Large Animal Research Station to view Musk-oxen and Alaskan Reindeer and Caribou. Traveling through unique Fairbanks residential areas we will head to the Alaska Oil Pipeline viewing station and learn about the technical wonders of this immense project. A drive through the wintry city of Fairbanks will take you to historic Downtown. Your guide will tell you about the gold mining history of Fairbanks. We will stop at the Fairbanks Visitor Center, Public Land Information and the frozen Chena River. If conditions allow, you can take a walk on the frozen river ice. Our next stop will be at one of our distinctive art galleries were you can enjoy Alaskan native art and crafts. We will leave downtown Fairbanks and drive 20 minutes to the town of North Pole, the home of Santa Claus. You will visit the world famous Santa Claus House, meet with Kris Kringle and pet his Reindeer. The tour will end at your Hotel.

DOG MUSHING TOUR Tour 260

Maximum 4 people per tour/per day!!
This tour is designed for the more adventurous person who would like to drive her/his own dog team.
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel. A one hour drive through the beautiful Alaskan winter world will bring you to the Goldstream Kennels near the town of Nenana. Over a hot cup of coffee you will meet your musher and guide, discuss all aspects of dog mushing and plan out your day. Fitted with proper winter gear (provided) you tour the kennel, select your dogs, hitch the sled and have your first try at dog mushing. Over the next hour you learn the skills necessary to run your own team and then you are ready for the big outing. With a four dog team you hit the trail and quietly slip through 14 miles of snow covered forest, frozen rivers and open tundra. Your guide and musher will accompany you during your trail run. Hot drinks will await you after you return to the kennel. Around 4 pm you will head back to Fairbanks where your day will end with drop off at your Hotel around 5 pm. 

Duration: 7 hours. Departure Time: 10am.

AURORA VIEWING
Tour 258
$65 per person (based on 2 people minimum)  

$130 for single traveler
You will depart from your hotel for an Aurora Viewing tour. A 30 to 45-minute drive will take you outside of Fairbanks to the Aurora Borealis Lodge, a beautiful, spacious Alaskan log building designed specially for viewing the Northern Lights. Located on Cleary Summit 20 miles north of Fairbanks, the lodge is situated away from the city lights that can hinder Aurora viewing. We recommend that you dress warmly for this tour, so you may view the Northern Lights from outdoors. If you become cold, the large, north-facing windows allow for optimal viewing from the warmth of the lodge. Hot beverages and roundtrip transportation are included. Your driver will return to you to your hotel at around 2:30am.
Duration: 4.5 hrs, including transfer time. Departure Time: approx. 10pm

Daily Departures: August 24, 2007 to October 14, 2007 AND November 18, 2007 to April 10, 2008 (aurora viewing is dependent on weather and aurora activity).
