Cross-country ski to the blue ice face of Portage Glacier in this one of a kind Alaskan adventure. Portage Valley traditionally separated the territories of Dena'ina and Alutiiq people, in the late 1800's gold prospectors traversed it to access claims in Hope and Sunrise along Turnagain Arm. Since 1914 the glacier has made a dramatic retreat around a bend leaving Portage Lake in its wake. Towering walls of ice await you on the guided trek while dramatic mountains and glaciers named after poets like Burns and Byron surround you. You will be outfitted with comfortable backcountry ski boots, metal edge cross-country skis or trekking skis for the 6-mile roundtrip on Portage Lake.
