The most
reliable chances to see the northern lights are from Fairbanks, and above the
Arctic Circle. The aurora belt in Alaska’s great Interior and Arctic regions is among the most active in the world, so there few other places on earth providing greater chances of seeing the northern lights. While there is no gaurantee, the aurora is typically at their most frequent in late fall and winter/early spring but can be seen throughout the winter months on nights with clear skies. If you come in November, December or January you experience the
longer polar darkness with and short daylight hours which by itself provides unique experiences in the high northern hemisphere. In February and March the days are longer and you see more of the snow covered landscapes with longer daylight hours and evenings still offering maximum northern lights viewing chances. | | | | | | | | | |
