February 27, 2008
Arrive into Anchorage on own. Transfer to your
hotel by courtesy hotel shuttle or on own.

Day 02: Thursday, February

2008
You will be picked up from your hotel and
transferred 60 miles north into the Matanuska
Valley to
Dream A Dream Dog Farm, owned and operated by
veteran Iditarod and Yukon Quest sled dog race
musher’s Vern and Susan Halter. Tour the kennel,
learn about dog sledding and meet real Alaskan
sled dogs! Then, depart right from the kennel on
a 6 to 8 mile sled dog ride through the
wilderness. This is a truly exhilarating
experience! This evening, reservations have
been made for the Iditarod mushers banquet
(transportation on own). Here you will have a
chance to meet the musher’s and feel the
excitement as the race starting positions are
chosen! Overnight Anchorage.
Day 03: Friday, February 29, 2008
A large variety of wildlife thrives in the rich
waters of Resurrection Bay year round, and you
can cruise these spectacular waters in the
comfort of spacious heated cabins while enjoying
the beauty of alpine glaciers, jagged shorelines
and towering rocky outcroppings through large
picture windows. You have good chances of seeing
Steller sea lions, sea otters, Dall porpoise,
and
perhaps even Orca whales. There is also a
variety of ducks and waterfowl present at this
time of the year. View Bear Glacier, a piedmont
glacier stemming from the Harding Field located
in Kenai Fjords National Park. The hanging
glaciers of Resurrection Bay will provide a
scenic backdrop for your photos. A hot lunch is
included on this 2.5-hour cruise. You will also
receive passes to the Alaska Wildlife
Conservation Center, located just 40 minutes
south of Anchorage. The AWCC provides an
opportunity to view moose, bears, caribou, musk
ox and others up close. Take a
self-guided tour through this amazing place
designed for the care and rehabilitation of
wildlife rescued in Alaska on your drive back to
Anchorage. Overnight Anchorage.
Day 04: Saturday,
March 1, 2008
Race
day! Watch the ceremonial start of the race in
downtown Anchorage. After watching
the mushers and their sled dog teams take off,
drive to other locations in the surrounding area
for up-close viewing of the teams as they travel
along Anchorage trails in route to their
first check-point in Eagle River. Later in
the afternoon return to Anchorage.

Day 05: Sunday,
March 2, 2008
Tour ends with hotel check-out. Extend your
stay to participate in Fur Rendezvous events,
witness the Tour of Anchorage, the race restart.
We are happy to customize extra days to meet
your schedule.

Anchorage): journey by ski plane to
the remote Finger Lake race check-point to
watch the sled dog teams arrive. During the
flight, watch for dog teams as you fly over
sections of the trail. You will enjoy a
picnic lunch while observing the mushers and
the dogs up close! Spend the day
experiencing the activities at the bustling
checkpoint before flying back to Anchorage's
Lake Hood by ski plane. Optional

The day is at your leisure to explore Anchorage
and the surrounding area, or visit the Fur

Today, drive
to Wasilla for the race restart. On the way,
visit the home of veteran Iditarod musher Vern
Halter. Here you will enjoy an informative
presentation about the Iditarod and a walking
tour of the dog lot. This is a great chance for
cuddling pups and taking pictures! After touring
the kennel, return to Wasilla, where at approx.
2pm the mushers exit urban Alaska to the
countryside for the great wilderness trek to
Nome. Return to Anchorage later in the
afternoon. Overnight Anchorage.
Day 06: Monday, March 3 2008
This morning, journey by ski plane to the
remote Finger Lake race check-point to watch the
sled dog teams arrive. During the flight, watch
for dog teams as you fly over sections of the
trail. You will enjoy a picnic lunch while
observing the mushers and the dogs up close!
Spend the day experiencing the activities at the
bustling checkpoint before flying back to
Anchorage's Lake Hood by ski plane. Overnight
Anchorage.
Day 07: Tuesday, March 4, 2008 Return rental car to the airport and depart
Anchorage or start additional program.
